A cyber complaint has been filed with the Maharashtra police by the activist group “Legal Rights Observatory” against the Wall Street Journal. The group is demanding an apology and withdrawal for false claims published February 26. The Wall Street Journal published an article commenting on the February 25 Delhi rioting and murder of Intelligence Bureau constable Ankit Sharma. The article quoted Ankit’s brother as saying “They came armed with stones, rods, knives and even swords; they shouted ‘Jai Shri Ram’…” However, Ankur Sharma clarified he never mentioned anything about “Jai Shri Ram”. “I never gave such a statement to Wall Street Journal,” he said. He characterized the article as a “ploy to defame my brother and my family”. A prominent voice amidst CAA Delhi protests has conceded her speeches were pre-written by protest organizers and the expenses of herself and others have also been paid. Amulya Leona told tickets were booked for her, a tour was sponsored, and she had been reading from prepared speeches. She also had been receiving reimbursements for expenses since December. Leona also revealed there is a content writer team who details scripts and assigns them to speakers such as herself. “Behind is an advisory committee, there is a content team, senior activists, my parents and a very big student protest group which is working. I am just the face of it,” she said. Senior journalist J. Gopikrishnan, associated with The Pioneer media outlet, has been calling out Indian media “presstitutes” who sell themselves to publish whatever media scripts are given to them for money. He exposed how a US-based newspaper publication offered him $1500 USD for a 1000 word article to report on how many people lost their lives along religious lines during recent rioting in Delhi. Gopikrishnan revealed how many Indian journalists are tempted to sell their souls for big money payouts and how the media houses see everything with a negative perspective. He further revealed that he had been offered $25,000 to publish a script given to him during the 2G scandal, which he refused. He later saw the very same script had been accepted by a paid journalist and published in the Economic Times.
