The Vedic civilization has proven to be, over millennia a civilization of inclusion, celebration, and enlightenment. This is precisely why it is attacked by those feeling powerless and frustrated inside. Hindus must also take responsibility here. March 8 is International Women’s Day. Does Hinduism really conspire to belittle and discriminate against women? Navratri is one of the world’s biggest festivals, and covers 40 days of a calendar year. All women of the community are worshipped as divine Devi’s each night for Navratri. Kumari Puja recognizes Divine Children and requests their blessings. All females in Hinduism are “Ma” – mother. The ferocious form of Kali Ma is beloved by 2 billion humans. Durga Puja is as big a beloved celebration as one can find. Devi Saraswati is the foundation of Hindu civilization on Earth. Ganga is the most widely worshipped Divine Feminine on the planet. Even at a cursory glance it’s clear Hinduism has exalted Divine Femininity not only in word but in deed, in stone, with gratitude, and through all out surrender for at least 12,000 years. The Sabarimala Enlightenment Ecosystem is accused of discriminating against women – while women-only temples are never mentioned. Hinduism provides solutions for all Beings – even for men – at Sabarimala. But this does NOT mean that all others are forsaken sinners – that the Ultimate is not available to them – that the experience of “Parama”, the Supreme Principle of Oneness is denied to them. We have thousands of Ayyappan temples, within walking distance of Sabarimala, that permit the entry of women every day and there are many other temples which admit women only. Because Hinduism provides equitably for the specific needs of all – men AND women, and even recognizes 11 genders – does NOT mean that it simultaneously discriminates against those very same populations. When Hindus pour pure organic milk in one location, it doesn’t mean they have banned juice in all others. Hinduism gives intense solutions, real solutions, that can never be trumped by short-sighted judgments. Hinduism is too juicy. The Ram Janmabhoomi judgement didn’t recognize Shri Ram Lalla as part of the same “Parama”, Ultimate Source as all of us. He was recognized as an individual merely for the purpose of executing a legal transaction before the Court. Like ascribing “individual” status to a container ship or a corporation, this recognition is not an attempt to acknowledge the Parama, Supreme Source of all of us with Shri Ram Lalla. Rather, it is an attempt to reduce the Ultimate by applying a Roman-British legal jurisprudence before the Court. It is invoked as a limiting view of Shri Ram Lalla, not a liberating one. All modern institutions are suffering from the divisive imposition of “survival of the fittest” and one-life theory, constraining the ultimate Parama source of Oneness, for all. On this International Day of Women, Hindus continue to bow down to Matha, Pitha, Guru, and Deva. We salute all the Devis, bow down to the Cosmic Mother, the Ultimate Parashakthi in all of us.
