Puri Shankaracharya: “Pre-meditated and well-orchestrated conspiracy” against Jagannath Rath Yatra

After an initial Supreme Court banning, and a last-minute protest appeal, Puri’s ancient Jagannath Rath Yatra was begrudgingly permitted to move forward with minimum participation by the public during the ancient 10-day essential Hindu festival. The event was broadcast live – where millions of devotees participated. Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, has alleged that the plan to stop the annual Rath Yatra was a premeditated and well-orchestrated conspiracy. He says there appears to be a premeditated and well-orchestrated conspiracy to derail the Rath Yatra whereas there are many previous examples where the Supreme Court had made special arrangements to resolve such arguments by allocating extra time such as even during holidays to hear relevant cases. (Swarajyamag) We must remember it was the Ramanandi Naga Sadhus who gave their lives to protect Puri from barbaric invaders during the middle ages. The Emar Math was one of the oldest Hindu monasteries of Puri and provided food during the time of Odisha famines in 1866. Attacks on Puri temple premises intensified since 2011 when a so-called “hidden treasure” “worth an estimated 90 crores rupees” ($12 Million USD) including silver bricks was discovered in nearby Emar Math and the fortune later looted. The Emar Math, more than 900 years old and established by Sri Ramanajucharya himself was demolished last year by so-called “secular government administration”. 2011 was a big year for looting Hindu temples as vaults within Padmanabhaswamy temple were invaded and an estimated 189 crores ($25 Million USD) went missing. In “the world’s oldest city” Varanasi, or Kashi, it has been revealed that more than 300 deities have been destroyed and thrown away in the destruction of the Kashi Corridor. More than 250 buildings with ancient temples that stood for more than 300 years have been demolished. And after 1am on June 6 of this year, 5 Hindu Sanyasis were attacked in the middle of the night as Kashi Sarvajnapeetam was surrounded and the Sanyasis beaten and kidnapped. Despite a Court Order protecting the ancient Mandir, the illegal destructive attack broke walls and floors and ceilings and dropped stones on the deities installed inside the temple. Even temples described in Puranas have been destroyed while blasting the Corridor, sacred deities have been laid waste without even a trace. The same attacks were launched on the 900 year old Emar Math of Puri and the Kashi Sarvajnapeetam: electricity and water were cut to the premises for days in an attempt to starve the Sanyasis in their home before beating them, kidnapping them, and looting the temples. In an attempt to loot the so-called “Lord Balaji Treasures”, the ancient annalaya or kitchen area within the first prakaram of Tirupati Balaji temple (used for more than 1000 years to prepare prasadam for Lord Venkateshwara) was dug up beginning in December of 2017 while concealed from the from public. How could this not have been bigger news? Lord Venkateshwara’s personal gifts from devotees were stolen. Loads of Balaji’s personal alankaram has also vanished under what has now spanned 250 years: traditional temple administration taken out of the hands of Hindus.
