“Secular Clampdown” of Hindu Temples

After much ado about nothing – other than attacking Hindus and destroying Hindu lifestyle, the Supreme Court of India has decided to allow Puri Rath Yatra to continue this week with certain restrictions on public participation. Puri Rath Yatra symbolises the return of Lord Krishna (Lord Jagannath) from Dwaraka, a kingdom he ruled, to Braj Bhoomi (modern-day Mathura and Vrindavan), a place where he grew up. The Rath Yatra that takes place in the Puri Jagannath temple in Odisha every year finds mentions in ancient scriptures like the Brahma Purana. The last time the Rath Yatra in Puri was not held was 285 years ago between 1733 and 1735 when Mohammed Taqi Khan, deputy governor of Odisha, attacked the Jagannath temple, forcing the shifting of the murtis to Ganjam district. (HinduPost.in) The secular assault on Hindus of Odisha is not a new development – the sacredness of the temple town of Puri has been gradually desecrated over a period of time, just last year 900-year-old Emar Matha and other Hindu heritage structures were demolished as part of so-called “infrastructure modernisation.” (HinduPost.in) Shankaracharya of Puri, Swami Nischalananda Saraswati, has alleged that the plan to stop the annual Rath Yatra was a premeditated and well-orchestrated conspiracy. He says there appears to be a premeditated and well-orchestrated conspiracy to derail the Rath Yatra whereas there are many previous examples where the Supreme Court had made special arrangements to resolve such arguments by allocating extra time such as even during holidays to hear relevant cases. (Swarajyamag) Dr. Subramanian Swamy, via Advocate Ishkaran Bhandari, recently filed a petition to protect 51 of Uttarakhand’s biggest Hindu temples from being taken over by secular government including Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri and Gangotri. This latest large temple grab would ensure the Hindu temples are administered by leaders of religions other than Hinduism. Current court arguments by the Uttarakhand government suggest this is how Hindu temples should be administered in India, moving forward. Mahamandaleshwar Dr. Swami Pragyanand Maharaj of Awahan Akhara, founder of the International Pragya Mission, left his body June 13. His samadhi was consecrated June 22 at Katangi in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Khattar Ji announced last week the government will bring a bill against religious conversion by force in the state. The bill would include coerced conversion through inducement or marriages solemnised for the sole purpose of adopting a new religion. Last month, retired District and Sessions Judge, Shri Pawan Kumar, from Haryana released a report and commented on atrocities being committed against minority Hindus in the Mewat region of Haryana. He said, the area which comprises a 20% Hindu population is notorious for criminal activities. Adbuctions, rape and gang attacks leave many Hindu victims too afraid to even report many crimes. Nonetheless, attacks on Hindus from the area are sometimes still reported on a daily basis. The retired judge himself was quoted as saying, “Aurangzeb-like brutal atrocities are being committed against Dalits in Mewat”. (Swarajyamag) On April 28 of this year in Mewat, Haryana: Mahant Ramdas of Muktidham Ashram was threatened to be set on fire, killed, and thrown out. He was attacked with sticks and other weapons. Somehow, Mahant Ramdas managed to escape with his life intact. Police allegedly refused to accept his filing of an FIR over the attempted murder.
